Camo Lizard

Camo Lizard, Mexico City

I caught this little guy on the way to my house not long ago, at first I thought he was part of the rusted tube but as I got closer I realized it was a lizard enjoying the sun. I took the picture with that setting on the camera that gives it vivid colors and it came out pretty well. I figure the picture brings a lot of focus towards the rusty combo of the lizard’s skin and the tube. Thus…The Camo Lizard.

Diane Arbus.- Child with Toy Hand Grenade in Central Park, New York City

As I’m flipping through “The Photography Book” I find myself staring at this specific picture the most. At first I focus on the boy, his look of desperation and hysteria as he clutches a toy hand grenade with claw-like hands caught my attention. I didn’t give much mind at what surrounded the boy, not until I read the text that accompanied the photo, it mentioned something about a rime. I had no idea that there could be such a thing as a rime in a picture, this is quite the discovery for me. So yes, there is a rime between the child’s scrawny legs and the two trees behind him, “huh…interesting” says I. As I keep on reading the text I learn how to appreciate the surroundings in the picture, the boy isn’t all there is to it. He represents the chaotic world, and the trees and sunlight represent bliss. So what I’m saying here is that although I favoured the boy in the beginning, the photo would not have had the  same effect on me as it did at first instance. I like this picture now even more than my first impression because of the contrast between chaos and bliss. Sure the boy is funny but there is more to it than just being funny, that’s just the catch…and it sure worked on me.
